Setup

This is the setup of events with unloading trucks, setting up gear, lighting, sound and stage according to plans laid out by the Stage Forman.

Shows

Stagehands assist users of performance spaces in the use of lights and sounds and other aspect needing assistance, such as props, wardrobe, low level security, and unloading gear during their events.

Tear down

Stagehands take down and help pack up when the shows have finished making sure any equipment and gear is put away in its place, Including Mies, cables, gobos, chairs, stands. Also help with anything the presenter needs help with getting out of the building after the event.

Other Duties

This includes things not associated with a particular show. Including things like hanging banners, and signs.  Assisting in maintenance of stage equipment and cleanliness of performance spaces.

Minimum Desireable Qualifications:

  • Basic entry-level knowledge of a back-stage theatrical working environment including terminology and standard operating procedures, usually acquired through formal education in the performing arts field or previous volunteer/work experience as a stage crew member in high school, college, community theatre, music club, regional theatre or professional performance venue.
  • Ability to follow and comply with employer's safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work varying and unusual work schedules.
  • Ability to follow detailed or general directions on how to perform tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to move quickly unaided.
  • Normal ability to hear, see, speak, smell in a backstage environment, which at times can be darkened, crowded and noisy with multiple hazards.

 

Applicant must be able to provide exceptional customer service to diverse groups of people including: the public, students, event promoters, and Unversity department representatives. Must have a positive friendly attitude, be clean and well-groomed, possess good interpersonal communication skills, and remain calm while managing life safety evacuation or other emergency.
