  1.   Heats and prepares convenience foods in accordance with the current menu plan. (Job Knowledge)
  2. Serves and delivers meals to each class, following the DCFS, CACFP and Department of Public Health standards in regards to quantity and safety. This includes carrying a tray or pushing a cart (requires the ability to push the food cart to other buildings on campus – at weights estimated to be between 25-40 pounds). Empties each classroom trashcan and takes the garbage to the dumpster after each meal service. (Job knowledge, Productivity)                                                   
  3. Works cooperatively with classroom staff and families to determine accurate meal counts and to determine and follow food restrictions of children with allergies. (Communication Skills; Teamwork, Cooperation and Interpersonal Skills; Judgment)
  4. Maintains Sangamon County Health Department codes by cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, dishes, appliances, floors and countertops (including all food prep areas) after each use and at the end of the day. Completes all required CACFP paperwork. (Reliability and Commitment to the Job; Productivity)
  5. Creates a weekly shopping list for food and related items needed for meal services weekly and works with the Staff Clerk for ordering and approval. Must be able to create monthly menus following CACFP guidelines. Works cooperatively with the Director, Staff clerk, families and all others. Unloads and stocks new food packages and monitors the condition of food for compliance of safe food handling. (Judgment; Communication Skills; Teamwork, Cooperation and Interpersonal Skills)
  6. Maintains an awareness of pertinent industry information by completing continuing education hours annually. Must meet all general requirements for personnel as stated in DCFS Section 407.100. Assists in the classroom with children as needed to maintain DCFS ratios. (Customer Service, Teamwork)
  7. Performs other duties as assigned (including but not limited to assisting with laundry, assisting with the cleaning and sanitizing of toys on a daily basis, assisting at the front desk as needed to answer calls and greet families and children. (Reliability and Commitment to Job)   

 

 

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
 

  • Based on institutional standards, as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health, a Food Handler Training certification (from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited trainer) may be required upon hire or a newly selected employee may be required to complete this training during an initial training period.
  • Six (6) months of experience in food preparation in a commercial setting.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to bend and/or squat to lift boxes, cans or other items
  • Ability to push and/or pull the food cart to classrooms (including those in other buildings), weighing approximately 25-40 lbs.
  • Ability to reach/stoop in order to put away inventory items and wash dishes
  • Ability to work in an environment that is often loud, busy and constantly changing.
  • Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate **CAN DO ON SITE AFTER HIRED
  • Successful completion of State of Illinois background check
  • Medical Physical- including tb test conducted to meet DCFS regulations
  • Must successfully achieve at least 20 hours of annual continuing education (of which 5 must be gateway registry approved and also include SIDS, Shaken Baby Syndrome and Mandated Reporter training) **CAN DO AFTER HIRED
  • Must be an active Gateways member **TO DO ON SITE AFTER HIRED
